I Won!

Ten years ago I decided to enter a local show, to see how my new-ish skills stacked up against others. I had only been knitting, what I call properly, for a couple of years. That first show I received one 1st, two 2nd, and three 3rd. A year later and 3 months of concentrated work, I finished enough items for all 12 entries, and earned two 1st, two 2nd, four 3rd, and two highly commended!   (missing one photo)

The blue dress is the one from an earlier post

The dressed doll is oldest childs and I made a whole new outfit - even the knickers (or it isn't judged)
This eyelet blanket I made while in various waiting rooms, to see doctors for child number 4. Done on circular needles, and an easy pattern, made it easy to put down when called.

Introducing Squirtle The Turtle
A favourite for number 3 kid

These are some very lacy baby items. Fun to make, although no grandkids to wear them yet..

This entry required 3 unrelated items. I adapted the vest slightly from the original by making it full lace. I designed the beret and wrap/shawl. I used a faggot lace throughout all

I hadn't made myself a garment until this piece. Usually just scarves hats etc. I had a bolero style cardigan and, of course, I adapted it. I used a 8ply mohair/acrylic purple for the main body. I then used a 4ply mohair yarn for cuffs and border/collar/lapels. It took a very, very long time to pick up and knit all of those stitches around the entire garment. And a very, very, very long time to knit, knit, knit around and around, on 3mm needles! I added some dark brown ribbon for accent and adjustments. I still wear it :D

I wanted to try something challenging (for me at the time). I came across a charming lace hanky made on 4 needles, and a knitted on lace border. I didn't do too well at the border but it it does give a nice ruffled look. It became a gift for a friends daughters christening

I made this cardigan for child number 4. She chose the colours and the buttons- there are 18. Which is why it only got commended, apparently. But I wasn't too worried. My daughter likes buttons ;D
Another challenge for myself. The requirement was any object using eyelet lace. I don't like the look of the nylon coathanger version, so chose a cotton lace eyelet tape. I knitted the blue using 2mm needles and 80 ct cotton, knitting the tape in around the hem and later the bodice. She was moved into a different category, and I can only assume they didn't realise that the tape was knitted in, not sewn. Ah well. It has been a favourite with my 2 younger kids
Over all I was very happy with my efforts. I had wanted to test how my skills compared to others in an anonymous setting. And now I know my work is of sufficient standard to compete and win (all catergories had multiple entries)
